PRIVACY POLICY

YOUR DATA. YOUR RIGHTS. CLEARLY EXPLAINED.
Last Updated: May 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how AeroLog ("we", "our", or "us"), developed by Jonathan Lara, collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use the AeroLog iOS app. We are committed to being transparent about how your data is handled and ensuring you remain in control of it at all times.
01

Who We Are

AeroLog is an iOS plane spotting logbook app developed and operated by Jonathan Lara. If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, please contact us at hello@aerologapp.com.

Our website is aerologapp.com.

02

What Data We Collect

AeroLog collects only the data necessary to provide its core functionality. Here is exactly what we collect and why:

  • Username — A display name you choose when you first set up the app. This is visible to other users on the global leaderboard.
  • Aircraft log entries — Registration, airline, aircraft type, log type (Spotted or Flown), date, location, notes, and optional photos that you choose to add.
  • Usage statistics — Derived from your log entries: total aircraft spotted, flown on, airlines, airports visited, and streaks. Used to power the Rankings leaderboard.
  • Profile photo — Optional. Only stored if you choose to upload one.
  • Airport spotting ratings — Star ratings you submit for spotting locations. Stored anonymously against your account.
  • Monthly log counter — For free tier users only. Tracks how many logs have been created this month to enforce the 10 log limit. This counter never decrements.
We do not collect: your real name, payment information, precise location history, device identifiers, or any data beyond what is listed above.
03

How We Store Your Data

AeroLog uses Apple CloudKit to store your data securely:

  • Private CloudKit database — Your log entries and photos are stored in your own private iCloud account. Only you can access this data. It does not cost us anything to store.
  • Public CloudKit database — Your username, statistics, and spotting ratings are stored in a shared CloudKit database so they can appear on the global leaderboard and community ratings. This data is visible to other AeroLog users.

All data stored via CloudKit is subject to Apple's privacy and security standards. Apple's privacy policy can be found at apple.com/privacy.

Subscription purchases are handled entirely by Apple's App Store and StoreKit. We never see or store your payment information.

04

How We Use Your Data

We use your data solely to provide the AeroLog service:

  • To display your logbook and statistics within the app
  • To show your position on the global leaderboard
  • To display community spotting ratings at airports
  • To restore your data if you reinstall the app
  • To enforce free tier log limits
We do not: sell your data to third parties, use your data for advertising, share your data with any external services beyond Apple CloudKit, or use your data for any purpose beyond operating the app.
05

Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, you have the following rights under GDPR:

  • Right to access — You can view all your data directly within the AeroLog app at any time.
  • Right to erasure — You can permanently delete all your data directly from the app using the Delete My Data option in your Profile. This removes all log entries, statistics, your profile, and ratings from our systems immediately.
  • Right to rectification — You can edit your username and log entries directly within the app.
  • Right to portability — Contact us at hello@aerologapp.com to request a copy of your data.
  • Right to object — Contact us at hello@aerologapp.com with any objections to how your data is processed.

To exercise any of these rights, you can use the in-app tools or contact us directly at hello@aerologapp.com.

06

Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as you use the app and have an active account. If you use the Delete My Data feature in the app, all your data is permanently and immediately deleted from our systems with no ability to recover it.

If you simply delete the app without using Delete My Data, your data remains stored in CloudKit and can be restored if you reinstall. To fully remove your data, please use the Delete My Data option before uninstalling.

07

Children's Privacy

AeroLog is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at hello@aerologapp.com and we will delete it promptly.

08

Third Party Services

AeroLog uses the following third party services to operate:

  • Apple CloudKit — For secure data storage. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Apple StoreKit — For subscription management. We never see your payment details.
  • AeroDataBox API (via api.market) — For live flight data in the Discover tab. Flight search queries include airport IATA codes and registration numbers but no personal data.

We do not use any advertising networks, analytics platforms, or tracking SDKs.

09

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of AeroLog after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

For significant changes, we will notify users through the app where possible.
